Tabletop Revolution is a network that centers welcoming inclusivity, emotional storytelling, and radical fun.
But what does that mean, exactly?
Welcoming Inclusivity
Among other things, “welcoming inclusivity” means that we create shows (audio podcasts right now, but other kinds of stories down the road!) with award-winning actors, directors, and producers from diverse backgrounds. Mainstream storytelling (including podcasts, tabletop roleplaying “actual play” shows, and films) still doesn’t reflect the diversity of our country and our world (often focusing on white straight men).
Our shows tell different stories by different storytellers.
We also aim to extend our welcome and our inclusion to the wider community. To us, Tabletop Revolution is a collective project, in conversation with listeners and watchers and co-collaborators.
You are part of this with us, and we’re grateful for that!
Emotional Storytelling
Every podcast, show, and studio has a different tone and approach. Our core storytelling belief is that deep emotions are core to our human experience and make stories richer. And yet, too often, emotions are denigrated or dismissed.
Here, we feel big and we feel often.
That also means that our shows explicitly touch on political themes, because our real life existence is political. To name just a few examples, the struggle for affordable rent and housing, protection of workers from unfair bosses and exploitative corporations, fighting back against discrimination by race and gender and other marginalized identities, and keeping our air and water clean are a core part of our everyday lives and should be represented in our storytelling.
Our lives are inherently political; our stories must be as well.
Radical Fun
Finally, we’re here to have a great time with each other; to create a beautiful, powerful, sustainable art and to do so in deep and loving connection with our communities.
We’re hosting a storytelling party, and we’re excited you’re here!
Who is Tabletop Revolution?
Tabletop Revolution is honored to work with many artists, creators, and makers around the world, but our owner and founder is John (“NerdyAdoptee”), a Korean-American transracial adoptee (John is ethnically Korean, but was adopted by white parents). John is an award-winning director, actor, and podcaster. You may catch him as a facilitator or GM on some of the shows, a player in other shows, or he may be working as a producer in the background, wildly cheering as the stories get told.
